West Ham United Eye Canadian Striker Jonathan David

West Ham United have joined the race to sign Canadian striker Jonathan David from Lille, aiming to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season. The Hammers face stiff competition from Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspur for the 24-year-old’s signature. While Manchester United has initiated contact with David’s representatives, no formal bid has been made yet.

David’s recent start for Canada against Argentina in the Copa America has put him in the spotlight, adding to his impressive 26-goal season with Lille across all competitions. His consistent performances have attracted interest from several top clubs, making him one of the most sought-after strikers this transfer window.

Lille’s openness to selling David for a reasonable £25 million due to his contract expiring next year puts West Ham in a good position. This potential transfer also suggests that West Ham is targeting strikers nearing the end of their contracts, making them potentially more affordable acquisitions.

Exploring Other Options

According to West Ham news sources, the Hammers have explored other options like Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy, who is likely to join Borussia Dortmund. They have also monitored players like Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri, Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion, Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, Toulouse’s Thijs Dallinga, and Cercle Brugge’s Kevin Denkey among many others. However, David’s price tag makes him a very attractive target for West Ham.

Edson Alvarez injury update

Edson Alvarez has suffered an injury blow following his involvement in the Copa America.

During the international match between Mexico and Jamaica, the West Ham midfielder had to be assisted from the pitch after sustaining an unconfirmed injury. There is speculation that the knock could be a hamstring strain, which could side-line him for anything from three to ten weeks.
Man United transfer in doubt?

Alvarez has been the subject of much speculation following transfer interest from Manchester United. The Mexican has been a massive hit at West Ham since joining the team but has done little to play down the recent transfer rumours.

Whether this short-term injury will be enough to deter the Manchester club is unclear. With the transfer window still in its infancy, Alvarez has time to recover. However, it does make it difficult for him to participate in West Ham’s pre-season training and friendly fixtures.

Whilst nobody wishes serious injury on a player. Nonetheless, if a month off can keep the player out of the clutches of moneybags Manchester United then it may be a blessing in disguise?

West Ham in hunt to sign Bayer Leverkusen striker Adam Hlozek

West Ham are in the hunt to sign Bayer Leverkusen striker Adam Hlozek who could leave the German club in the summer transfer window.

According to a report from the Sunday Mirror via their print edition (page 76, 23 June), the 21-year-old striker is “highly rated” across Europe.

The Hammers are badly in need to sign a new striker in the summer. They have already landed Brazilian forward Luis Guilherme and are looking to add more firepower to their ranks.

Michail Antonio has served the club tirelessly over the years, but he is approaching the fag end of his career, and the Hammers need to plan for his long-term replacement.

Danny Ings joined from Aston Villa with a great goalscoring pedigree behind his name, but he has been very poor in two seasons at the club. There is a high chance that West Ham could sell him if the offer is right.

Adam Hlozek could be a smart signing for West Ham

Put simply, a new striker is required, and Hlozek could be a smart signing for the Hammers.

The 32-time capped Czech Republic striker “could be set to leave” the German champions as he is struggling to get regular games.

Last season, he managed seven goals and five assists in only four starts for Leverkusen. He is not getting enough games at Leverkusen because Xabi Alonso’s side is chock-a-bloc with top-quality players.

However, he is an “unlocked promise” and any potential club can sign him on a bargain by paying around £12 million for his signature.

Hlozek is currently with the national squad participating in the Euro 2024 Championships and his future is likely to be decided when he returns for pre-season training.

He is a “nimble, cunning attacker” with a contract at Leverkusen until 2027. Leeds United are also keen to sign him, but surely a move to the Premier League could be more appealing to him if the Hammers make an offer.
