Never played a Test but Nicolas Pooran definitely has the talent to be in that West Indies team. Lovely striker of a ball
Shame they have talent happy to just take the white ball ££££

Again same story. Second & Third Tests sees the Windies be competitive for a couple of days then fall apart
Impressive finish by England with ball and bat on the last day to basically make mincemeat of them

Now in peak summer there is a 3 week window for The Hundred until the Old Trafford Sri Lanka Test starting August 21

Same old story for the Windies
Patch of good batting then collapse in a heap

"Has any national team in any sport. Fell as badly as the west indies cricket team. "

England football team. World Cup winners in 1966, failed to even qualify in 1974 and 1978

Said from the start resources put into the Hundred could have been used to pump up the county t20.
Shorten it to allow overseas players to commit & give it a slot that suits school holidays without leaving too big a hole in the red ball … county & Test … schedule
Amusing that there is talk of post 2029 that it will still be called the Hundred but be Hundred & Twenty
Even funnier that no other country has shown the slightest interest in creating THEIR own Hundred

We shouldn't kid ourselves that the 16.4 (yes, that tickles me) was anything but a product created purely to be sold. Never a serious format meant to change/improve the game, just a new way of having fireworks to attract money.

I am delighted to watch it fail to do that, despite the damage it's doing. They're hawking it out to NFL owners now - how desperate must they be?

The basketball/football thing is true, but it would also help if they could get their best team on the park. The board there has fucked things up spectacularly and all their half decent players go elsewhere for paydays.

This is roughly their C team. Kirk MCKENZIE averages 28 in first class cricket, Kavem HODGE averages 29…. All in a first class comp where one of the best bowlers is Alzarri JOSEPH, who averages 36 in Test cricket.

As said yesterday, this team would finish comfortably bottom of Division 2 of the County Championship.

Although I’d still be more interested in watching them than THE HUNDRED. What an absolutely steaming pile of dog shit it is. And we’ve got progressively worse at white ball cricket since its inception – whereas the players who won BOTH world cups came from the Blast.

You could maybe ask how such a small nation made up of a collection of islands were ever so good.
Hard to explain how a group that was so good doesn’t produce the same quality any more.
Have heard people say young kids are now distracted by sports like basketball from the nearby USA & young players don’t get the chance to play county cricket & there isn’t the resources to develop youngsters.
Not at the same level but you might say Hungary used to be a footballing power & are now just an ok team.
And Scotland used to produce talented footballers who dominated English football 50 years ago & now just have Andy Irving & a load of dogshit

Has any national team in any sport. Fell as badly as the west indies cricket team. 40 years ago this summer I remember watching them whitewash us in 84 test series . And we were a seriously good team then as well. They were just ridiculously good .

Not for 40 years

They talked about bringing them back for the last Ashes there but England advised it might well kill Ollie Robinson

Swev, do they still do eight ball overs in that country you think is yours?

Re: England v West Indies Test series
Speaking of bumper crowds I see The Hundred is back today
Read that when this current contract for the tv runs out in 2029 it might be changed to a game of 6 ball sets called ‘overs’ … 20 of them
With all the teams sold to Americans & Indians

Bumper crowds? Not on Sunday.
Was surprising to see

Re: England v West Indies Test series
Instead of focusing on the empty seat Sven, you should focus on the fact that test cricket still gets bumper crowds in England. For a dying format and NO other country can fill their grounds for. Including your beloved Australia.

"What was the reason as the Test was in the balance at that point with Root & Brooks at the crease?"

this West Indies C team would finish bottom of Div 2 of the County Championship, and not by a small margin.
Lords only really sold out because of Jimmy.

On a separate note things aren’t looking good for Geoff Boycott . Struggling with pneumonia following a throat cancer op and is very poorly .

The Sunday crowd at Trent Bridge was surprisingly sparse
What was the reason as the Test was in the balance at that point with Root & Brooks at the crease?

Especially when B Stokes tells us his team will live long in the memory of those lucky enough to see them play

Eerie Descent 5:19 Mon Jul 22
Re: England v West Indies Test series
From what I've read, it's Stokes who is the one that identified Bashir as someone he wants in the team, after seeing some footage of him bowling to Cook.

Tell you what, he's going to have to properly contribute with the ball, as he doesn't look like he even knows what way to hold the bat up.

"Should restrict Tests to Lords & The Oval as northerners not interested"

Only 3 of this summer's six tests are outside London.

Fauxstralian 5:07 Mon Jul 22
Re: England v West Indies Test series
In the small amount of cricket I did see yesterday showed a Sunday crowd well below capacity in a tiny ground with SWATHES of empty seats
Should restrict Tests to Lords & The Oval as northerners not interested

Not sure what the point of 5 Eng v Aust ODI’s is given we are a long way from the next WC apart from making money
£160 a ticket I saw. I know it’s a chance to see the 6 times World Champions but it will be a younger Aust team with P Cummins (on the poster) not coming
