Re: England v West Indies Test series
West Indies a little bit better but threw away a couple of wickets with brainless shots
Need to make 300+ to make a competitive Test out of this but cant see it

Wood bowling at 97mph

Re: England v West Indies Test series
Understand Middlesex are also talking about leaving Lords altogether because:
1. Costs
and presumably
2. The behaviour of the feral MCC members

Re: England v West Indies Test series
Middlesex :
Following the backlash against the news, the club issued further information on the reasoning behind its decision today (November 24).

“It is clear from the response to that announcement, from the many comments made by members on social media, and from those members who have contacted the Club directly, that we need to offer further clarity on the rationale for this decision to provide members with more insight and a greater understanding of why this difficult decision has been made,” read a media release from the club.

“First and foremost, we understand the initial reaction from members – as at face value, the logic of Middlesex playing two ‘home’ matches at the ground of another county seems is difficult to understand. Members have our assurance that this decision has not been taken lightly, and there are several reasons why we have had to do so – most importantly to ensure the financial stability of the Club moving forwards.”
Middlesex were handed a £50,000 fine and a suspended points deduction by the ECB in September this year for breaching the board’s financial rules. The charges alleged that the club had spent money allocated for youth and grassroots cricket on their professional set-up at Lord’s. There has been an ongoing probe by the ECB into Middlesex’s finances over the last several months, with alleged financial irregularities going back several years in the club’s accounts.

The statement from Middlesex clarified that the club will receive a share of the gate revenue from both matches held in Essex and a share of the hospitality revenue. “Essentially, playing at Chelmsford instead of an out-ground club ground already saves the Club a significant sum on the costs of setting up the game,” read the statement. “When potential revenue from gate receipts and hospitality are factored in, the Club stands to potentially be making a financial upturn of six figures plus.”

Unlike all other counties, Middlesex do not own their main ground, with the MCC the landlords of Lord’s. As well as hampering their finances, this also means they do not have unfettered access to the ground. They explained that, with the dates of the Blast games for which they had to seek alternative venues spread apart, they would have had to set up at an outground three times, making the expense prohibitive. Their one fixture at Radlett is followed by a Charlotte Edwards Cup game for Middlesex Women, allowing them to spread the cost of hosting across the two days.
The statement also clarified that Middlesex members will be able to access the match free as part of their membership, and that Essex members will have to pay for tickets to the games, and won’t be able to access the pavilion and other Middlesex-only areas during the fixture.

I see that Middlesucks are playing Glolcester at Chelmsford, why is that? Lords being used for something?

A crazily fast start for England this morning. The fastest ever 50 in test cricket. Gotta love BAZBALL.

Mark Wood named in Englands XI as replacement for Anderson for the Second Test starting Thursday
Pennington, Potts & Lawrence sit out again

Re: England v West Indies Test series
Trent Bridge forecast for Thursday on is similar to Lords .... Cloudy and low 20's for the first three days & a bit sunnier for days 4 & 5 (if required)

Australia name squads for the t20 & ODI tour of Scotland & England in Sept. 3 t20's in each & 5 ODI's v England
Cummins not coming at all, Starc & Maxwell just for the ODI's
Lots of young players like Jake Fraser-McGurk & Cooper Connolly. Good selection

Martin - was down there yesterday. Was an absolute privilege to watch, and not for the first time. Genuinely brilliant innings against a high class bowling attack. Said last year that he'll be the next that the Surrey cunts come sniffing around.

As for the Anderson farewell, having been there Friday I'm not sure it could have been done any better. Not often they let you on the outfield at Lords, and the interaction with the dressing room was brilliant. And for him, the fact that you had a full house for an hour world cricket shows the affection people have for him, given how understated he is I would imagine that in itself was quite special. But yes... he's bowling quicker than woakes and could still evidently do a job for the team, so.its a little weird.

Cheers
Schedule squeezed by the t20 WC and the decision to give the first 3 weeks of August (peak summer) to THE HUNDRED

Wood added to the England squad for the second Test
If Anderson is being binned because he wont be in Brisbane in November 2025 I'm not sure why Woakes is being selected

Re: England v West Indies Test series
Not on topic I know

But a magnificent result for Essex at Hove today.

Chasing Sussex 207/2 - Essex were reduced to 90/5 after 9.1 overs, only to register 211/5 after 18.3 overs based on a stand of 121 in 9.2 overs thanks to Michael Pepper's 120 n.o. off 53 deliveries and Charlie Allison's 44 off 26.

Made for very enjoyable viewing on Youtube - a vast improvement on recent football

Re: England v West Indies Test series
Lords empty for the weekend
Surely a Friday start was a better idea?
Second Test at least has a Thursday start next week at Trent Bridge
14 man squad was named initially so with Anderson joining the coaching staff Pennington or Potts will come in as the only change.
Only hope for the Windies is that they have had some experience in English conditions but need a massive improvement in their batting

Re: England v West Indies Test series
Appalling performance by the West Indies.

If the likes of the West Indies can't be competitive, they need to bring in a two division structure to test cricket and stick to a top league of England, South Africa, New Zealand, India and Australia.

The West Indies should be in division two with Pakistan, Sri Lanka, IreLOLand, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Re: England v West Indies Test series
Was saying to someone yesterday that now that they have DRS I think they could abandon 'neutral' umpires which would mean Rod Tucker wouldnt have to fly all the way to England when there are probably a bunch of English umpires as good or better who are more familiar with the pitch conditions.
Plus it would mean he might be able to do some home Tests instead of flying around the world all the time
Would be perfectly happy with English umpires (probably the most experienced and generally best) doing the Ashes instead of clowns like Joel Wilson

Things have moved on from the days where England didnt get a single lbw in the 1970/71 Ashes from Aust umpires and when Tufnell asked an Aust umpire how many balls were left in the over and was advised to COUNT THEM YOURSELF.

Re: England v West Indies Test series
My mate who is a black cabbie had Rodney Tucker in his cab, gave him two corporate tickets for today as said the third day is the best.

They're £1150 odd plus VAT

Poor sod will be lucky to get to his free lunch

Re: England v West Indies Test series
Maybe if 708 was the record it would mean more, but being either second or third possibly isn't that big a deal.

Re: England v West Indies Test series
He hasn’t expressed a view as to whether that’s important to him. He doesn’t seem the type to focus on individual records rather than team achievements
The coach obviously isn’t bothered as he has bombed him out
As I said earlier I think he should have been given this summer with the warning that he wasn’t an automatic selection
If I was him I would have played on and called it a day after the Test at Old Trafford against Sri Lanka (think that’s right)

Going out on a murky day at Lords not quite the same after a few overs on a Friday morning
Is it still the rule that if there is 15 overs today that there is no refund at all?

Manuel 6:33 Fri Jul 12
Re: England v West Indies Test series
Isn't Anderson fussed about surpassing Warne's 708? It's his last day today, right?

Re: England v West Indies Test series
Any particular reason for starting the Test on a Wednesday?
Almost certain will be done before the weekend so no Saturday or Sunday play for people with jobs.
Am guessing its to fit the second Test in before The Hundred starts the day after the 5th day

Give Anderson 3 overs then throw the ball to the new lad.
