“Last Man Standing” | Only West Ham Remain in Hunt For Toney

West Ham could well be the last man standing in the pursuit of Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

That’s the latest from West Ham insider ExWHUEmployee, who has given his latest updates on the Hammers’ striker search. Toney was on target for England earlier tonight in the Euro 24 penalty shootout victory against Switzerland, having come on as a late substitute.

New West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui is known to be a fan of the forward, having complimented him while he was manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Originally, there were a number of clubs in the running for Toney; however, they appear to have fallen by the wayside, with Brentford receiving no firm bids for the player. Originally valued at £100 million, the West London club has had to drastically reduce their valuation, particularly in light of the player serving a suspension for betting irregularities.

Whilst Toney is an excellent player, he still carries a hefty price tag for someone who will be 29 years of age early in the new year. For that reason, it’s understandable why nobody has made a firm bid yet. At the right price, the former Peterborough striker could be an excellent signing. However, if Brentford continues to value him at £50 million, he may not move at all.
