Re: Sammie Szmodics

A nice romantic idea to sign a lifelong fan, but not sure a fella making his top level debut at nearly 29 is one that got away.

Well the response Was to your slate on Sammie , not an attack on fulkrug.

So, given that fulkrug is way better in your opinion, how many more goals will he score in this seasons PL than Sammie?

29. What’s the point here?

A year later that Sammie Szmodics made his international debut for his second choice, and fifth rate national side. How early do you think ROI would call up Fullkrug if they could?

This isn’t a Szmosics slate anyway. Hope he has a successful career. Completely different page to Fullkrug, though, who is nothing like second rate.

Eff

What age did he make his international senior debut at?

Re: Sammie Szmodics
And just to add, if you honestly think Fullkrug is 2nd rate, I don’t think you understand centre forward play. I saw enough in 20 minutes yesterday to see he has a football brain that is vastly superior to anything we have seen recently. While a great bit of play from Kilman, and a great finish from Bowen, that goal doesn’t happen without the overlooked unselfish and clever run from Fullkrug creating the space.

Re: Sammie Szmodics
I thought someone would make that ridiculous point.

Just by way of comparison, Fullkrug has consistently scored goals on the top level of German football. Scored 13 in 21 internationals, was selected and given the number 9 shirt for a major international tournament for that tier 1 nation, and played in a Champions League final last year.

In what way do you think he is comparable to a bloke who has played the majority of his career at Colchester and Peterborough before a two-year stint at Blackburn?

I think he is decent. But taking your point, we appear to have signed a nearly 32 year old second rate German instead

I reckon only about half a dozen times then Scorch!

This is going to get bumped every time he scores a goal isn't it.

On the scoresheet for Ipswich today against Man city

Time will tell but I think he would of been an excellent acquisition had we taken the plunge.

Could've been our new Craig Bellamy.....

Re: Sammie Szmodics
If he was really that good, he wouldn't be going to Ipswich for £9m.

Of the signings we missed out on, I don't expect this one to be remembered.

Is he the new Lee Trundle?

Re: Sammie Szmodics
He’s bigger and more powerful than TC.
Better than Ings and Cornet.
What’s 9 mill these days?

Re: Sammie Szmodics
Come on now, chaps.

I’ve just looked Szmodics up - 5 years ago he was playing league 2 football with Colchester United,

He then moved to Peterborough United.

Now, fair play to him - he’s then moved on and done really well for Blackburn Rovers.

He’s obviously knuckled down and improved 10 fold to achieve the statistics he has at BR to earn him himself a move to the Premier League this season - good luck to him.

Maybe he’ll be a late developer like Ian Wright/Les Ferdinand and perform well through his 30’s.

But, to say that we missed the boat 5 years ago is revisionism with a touch of magical thinking thrown in, due to the fact he supports West Ham.

If he happens to do really well and bangs in a fair few for Ipswich this coming season (also playing in a way that looks like he could fit into our system) then maybe, put in a cheeky bid.

He’d not cost a ridiculous amount and he’d probably be more than up for it.

Re: Sammie Szmodics
Otb... Agree we won't know until he's played at least a season at the top level, but the standout season was the first one where he was moved forward... and to be fair he's already scored 3 in 2 this season without completing either game.

I wish him luck

Wow, you called that well! Five years ago he played ten games in League One, so it would have taken quite the scout to spot him.

Only time will tell if we've missed the boat. One standout season in the Championship doesn't scream that, but who knows?

Re: Sammie Szmodics
He has signed for Ipswich for £9m plus add ons.
We have misssed the boat once more
I'm sure he would of jumped at the chance to join the club he supports

Re: Sammie Szmodics
Presume this was posted as Ipswich had a £7m bid turned down by Blackburn
Understand he has 2 years left on his contract & is 28
Agree is probably one we missed the boat on 5 years ago. Suspect Blackburn will want a lot more but could see a bigger Championship team taking him
Maybe Leeds if they sell Summerville
