*** West Ham Online Site Switchover & Test Weekend ***
As some of you will know, Wils, North Bank and myself have been looking at how we can migrate form the current WHO platform to a more modern version that will stop the issues experienced on matchdays, introduce some new features, and safeguard the forum into the foreseeable future.

We're now ready to start this process, and the steps below outline what will happen and when (and what you need to do to start using the new platform).

There is a test on the new site which you can access at:

https://forum.westhamonline.co.uk

A match thread and a test thread has been created for trying things out for this weekend...please help out by giving it a go and providing feedback. New threads have been disabled in the short term.

1. User Accounts

We've identified all posters that have contributed to threads which are in the first 10 pages of the forum. This pretty much means any thread updated since November 2023 and is about 500 usernames.

These users (basically those of us that have been active in the recent past) has been setup on the new platform with their current Username and the email address stored by the current site.

*** NB. Some emails stored will be old/missing as the current platform is inconsistent with this, and these users will need to WHOmail us with their new email address. ***

To access your new account you just need to go to the new platform, choose to 'Login', select 'Forgotten Password', and enter your email address (the one associated to your WHO account). You'll then receive an email to that email address that lets you change your password and subsequently login.

If your email has changed, or you don't know which one you registered with, send myself, Wils or North Bank a WHOMail with your current Email Address, and we'll have this added to the new WHO's username for you (and then the above 'Forgot Password' link will work). There is a thread on the new site outlining this process too.

*** Please try the Forgotten Password Link before sending a WHO Mail though. ***

The list of user below have no email address associated to the site and will need to contact us to get access.

2. WHO Mail

The new WHO platform has WHO Mail (Private messaging user to user) but we cannot migrate existing WHO Mail content. From the point that WHO is switched off (there'll be a period of both sites being up at different addresses) you will lose access to old WHO Mail. Please take copies of any WHO Mail Content/Messages of importance ASAP.

Following the test, we'll start migrating content to the new site, and decommissioning the old site. More details on this to follow.

If there's any question about any of the above, let me us know by replying below.

Stubbo, North Bank & Wils.

The Limericks and all the 'big' threads are in the agenda for the early part of the week.

We do all this by 'scraping' the content from the website as don't have access to the database, and the old threads present some problems.

You'll see none of the posts have a year associated to them...we have to try and work out what year each post relates to, and the really old threads going back past 2019 we can't do fully automated (so they take a fair bit longer).

But Limericks, Woke Watch, Movies, TV Series, etc are all on the agenda for the start of the week.

Will the Limericks folder be moved over or is it really that bad it truly deserves to die with the site?

I can't login to the new site using credentials that still work here. I did the forgot password thing and no email. I tried to register with existing name and it says name is taken. Assume I'll just have to create a new user name

Think we need a nostalgic and celebratory last/exit poll before the site finally closes.

I propose a "Which poster will have their tongue furthest up a mod's arse during the cut-over period" poll.

You can also post files, Gifs, pics, screenshots etc.. I think.

Manuel, just noticed NB's thread saying 30 pages of threads will be migrated over to the new site and locked here then this site will cease on 30th September.

The new site is the nuts.

Great work - even has an edit option as far as I can tell.

Re: *** West Ham Online Site Switchover & Test Weekend ***
The "Hide from other posters" option (Spin it whatever label you wish, it'll still do the same thing):

https://forum.westhamonline.co.uk/ucp.php?i=ucp_zebra&mode=foes

Could be amusing.

Imagine the feelings of any poster who everybody else marks as a foe (including MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEE!) and so gets completely blanked.

Go on, hop over - I just know (KNOW) some of you are gagging for such a function.

Thank you for the link Stubbo.

I have entered my email address, which is the one associated with my existing account and the only email I use, and am waiting for message.

A refreshing attitude to the idiot, Stubbo.

I'm going to look forward to the new site, I reckon.

@H&P

I've got little energy for dealing with someone looking to be difficult, but I'll play along once more.

Here's the forgotten password link for you:

https://forum.westhamonline.co.uk/user/forgot_password

If you have any issues using it and genuinely want to be successful in gaining access, suggest you whomail me and I can help out that way. It clearly does work and the instructions have been ok, as evidenced by over 150 having successfully made it over.

If you don't get an email from the site, per my instructions, suggest you email me an up to date email. Others seem to have been able to follow this guidance.

We could of course just blat the old site, lose all the historic content, put a new site in it's place, and basically start again from ground zero, with everyone having to reregister, the virtual 'theft' of Usernames (imagine one of your detractors getting in before you and registering 'Hammer and Pickle as themselves).

What we're trying to do is preserve the site's integrity and history, keeping the content, and enabling people to ensure they keep usernames they've used for over 20 years in many cases. It will be before your time, but once upon a time the domain for this site was actually 'westhamonline.com' and it moved to .net under not dissimilar circumstances from what I can remember.

We also couldn't just create a subdomain under the existing domain name and build out there, as we didn't have sufficient access to the hosting account to be able to do so. If we can ultimately retain the .net domain name we will do, but Wils will have to comment on this as he's more technically knowledgeable in this area.

Before we move the content over which will need threads to be locked to stabilise their content (which incidentally I can do since North Bank made me a Mod as he's fully on board with the whole process), he will post up a message to explain the last part of this process, as as you point out, he's the authority here...not me.

I'm not going into any further explanation on this. If you need help logging in at the new site, just send me a Whomail.

Thanks for the chance to explain in more detail (than most are interested in) the background and process.

Re: *** West Ham Online Site Switchover & Test Weekend ***
Roots - Agree, let those who want to embark on another 10 years or so arguing and chatting shit on WHO migrate across and those who want to call it a day call it a day. Just get the fuck on with it. What Pickle has said is just what some are thinking no doubt. I thought the original idea was to keep our beloved WHO pretty much the same with just a few tweaks and move it to a server that actually works, not a completely different type of modern day forum with all the trimmings, or maybe that wasn't possible. Anyway, as you were.

Re: *** West Ham Online Site Switchover & Test Weekend ***
This site needs to be shut down asap as we've now got 2 forums being used which means I have to check both and it's also hindering the new site as some are reluctant to change and need to be given no option.
