As the ground is out of the centre but near a station so anywhere in Athens will be ideal. I stayed in Psirri at Acropolis View apartments that has the smallest lift I have ever been in. Monastiraki Sq station is about 10 minutes walk and there are load of bars and restaurants around so you won't go...
