"Finance, politics, football, most public sector exec roles... It's a long list. I'm aware of certain council chiefs and execs who fail at pretty much every authority they go to. They just move on before the shitstorm hits, and land their next £250k a year job with a gold-plated pension...and on...and on..."

"Nah - ""failing upwards"" is an unfortunately regular occurrence in many sectors these days Trunds. But football does seem to take it to extremes. And, in fairness to Moyes, until his very limited tactics were rumbled by (now) data driven opponents (which is what has happened), he was delivering against his remit. One trick pony, got found out."

"Once had a contract (albeit fixed-term) at a firm that, unbeknown to my boss, meant I couldn't be sacked unless I pretty much committed a major crime. The owners wanted somebody to come in who could stand up to the boss because he was a bit of a twonk - so gave me all kinds of contract-based protections. Great times: license to clash with the bloke in the office above you to get stuff done. Maybe somebody needs to give the players that with Moyes!"

"So quick round up on the papers looks like the are having a meeting today to sack him with Dyche or Benitez to take over. So if you had to chose one or the other, who would it be? Dyche!"

"Sullivan is very, very money conscious. If it wasn't for the fact that his treasure chest is looming (April 2023 onwards), I think he would potentially take it to the wire in the hope that Moyes will turn it round and keep us us as that should be a given (even though the initial objective was maintaining top 6). However, £7m vs losing market value of the club and not even guaranteeing that someone will buy up the shares must be making him lose sleep."

"Let's face it - none of us know what is actually in the small print of Moyes' contract. There are all kinds of clauses, triggers and entitlements that could be built into the contract of any senior football figure - it just depends on what clubs do or don't demand, and what a manager (on advice from his agent/lawyer) is prepared to sign. But I haven't got a Scooby what's in Moyes' contract - and I'm sure most people on here, and elsewhere, are in the same boat. You generally get an idea long after they've left, because it has to be reflected (more generally) in the accounts. So I have no idea whether it would cost us £7m or £7 to ditch Moyes. Although £7 would be useful at the moment."

"How much did the Mancs pay him? I know it was a lot. Sometimes the biggest failures in football hit the jackpot financially, Moyes being a good example."

David Moyes 6yr Man Utd contract had a clause that they were able to sack him and only pay him one years salary if they missed out on CL qualification. He got binned they day after it was mathematically impossible for them

"I think it's simply that the club didn't plan for it all to go pear shaped. They never do. Too busy saying how great it is and basking in trips to Europe to notice the steady decline in league results. Seems there is no one in the boardroom who has even the slightest insight into the game. I'm meeting my old footie team at a club event next week ( think Cholmondley Warner, smoking pipes, long shorts etc. ) one of current players works for the unusually small data analytics team at West Ham. See if he knows anything and ask what he does ( fvck all if he's studying Soucek's stats )."

i'm sure lots of clubs have clauses about where a team finishes the season - but none have one that say 'if you're ever in the bottom 3 we can sack you for less'.

goose 11:37 Wed Jan 18 Plenty of clubs insert clauses to reduce compensation when sacking should teams be out of the champions league places or in the bottom 3 etc ..... Id be amazed if the dildo dwarf being as tight as he is didnt insert that into Moyes' new deal

I said to 3 people at start of season our biggest mistake would be keeping hold of Rice. I don't care that he is the best player on the pitch. You can't have a captain who is leaving for better things. It doesn't inspire. It's no wonder he is playing out of his skin to get a big move and everyone around him can't be fucked. Why isn't this narrative being discussed more. The team is almost identical and we look different. No Noble In the dressing room and a immature Kid pretending to lead. Ronaldo was Man Utd best player last season but not a team one and was fucked off out of it. Rice is flying under the radar. He is and always has been a Chelsea boy and I would rather see him gone. His legacy will be captaining us to relegation. Rant over.

"I suspect the 7m isn't just paying Moyes off, but paying off Nolan, Nevin, McKinlay etc as well. Usually binning the manager also means binning all the backroom staff too."

"Pents - Agree, the one more game thing is a complete nonsense and never ends well. You can't run a club at this level like that. There have been many theories as to why they haven't sacked him yet, and who knows which one it is, but maybe it is non financial and they really are hoping he turns it around and can pick it up again, as they have allegedly said if he left they would be looking for someone like Moyes to come in. It's not happening though, bloke is shot to pieces and can't outwit these younger coaches anymore, and can't work with better players."

"I do think he needs to go but have some fucking class and get rid of him or stand by him but the narrative this morning about even if he wins vs Everton, he is still one loss away from sack is a joke. We need stability. We need a better manager but the board are fucking us even more by dithering. Back or sack TODAY!"

"Today they believe they are earning on our hatred of the manager and us discussing relegation. The future risk of relegation is not yet on their radar. Problem is, with their radar set for making a profit today, we may be over the relegation event horizon by Saturday night and they'll be none the wiser."

"If we don't sack Moyes, and fail to beat Everton, then I genuinely think it's relegation for us this season. £7m is a lot of money by any measurement - and Moyes has not earned it. But in the over-valued cash-rich bubble of football, that money equates to the right leg of a bang average left back. Spend it, move on. Because relegation with be a bigger financial nightmare - and it's coming if he stays."
