Did you ever think that with more competition prices could come down? OR manufacturers will eat some or all of the Tariffs? Might want to go out and buy some stocks  as they say better late than never.

The joint press conference was a bit stomach churning, especially with Mandelson there.

details are still being revealed but it sounds like tariffs will come off British steel/aluminium into the US. First 100k cars will be 10% tariff  - it sounds like we only export about 125k a year anyway.

in the other direction Starmer said they've opened up the UK market to US food & agriculture but without compromise on food standards. there was talk of the digital tax on US companies coming off but i haven't seen that confirmed.

apparently US beef is the best in the world..............up until now US beef imports were limited due to added growth hormones.

Any increase in prices will be transitory and will be gone once Tariffs are removed. Any Tariffs remaining will be minimal and easily offset with a reduction in energy costs and Trumps Tax cuts. You can also expect to see wage increases finally once manufacturing comes back. So it’s not quite the Issue you pretend it to be. As I said Simpleton!

There’s nothing transitory about the costs. They’re permanent and will release an inflationary ‘jump’ on anything imported from the majority of trading partners.

Energy costs have already come down as you keep pointing out, and yet the all items CPI index rose by 2.4% in March. So no, energy will not be offsetting this cost.

not to mention there is no energy benefit if you’re importing finished goods.

you keep saying manufacturing jobs are coming back but haven’t managed to name one product or raw material which is actually going to be made in the US instead of China/india/vietnam/taiwan etc etc etc.

US will make deals with most countries, UK included, that will be fair or end in free trade.

China is the big kahuna and not just for the US. China has mobilized in a big way in recent decades in manufacturing. Every firm here selling a product now almost certainly needs it to be made in China to be competitive and turn a profit. Is it not in any way alarming that we have allowed ourselves to as reliant as we now are on China to make many of the everyday goods we rely on as cheaply as they do?
