Theres still a 10% tariff on nearly all U.K. imports, which means they’ll cost the consumer more than they did a few months ago. Or it means people will buy less of them. Neither is a great result is it?
I thought the idea was to stop importing foreign goods and manufacture them in the US? When is that starting?
btw which American cars do you think are going to sell over here?“I thought the idea was to stop importing foreign goods and manufacture them in the US”
Here you go again showing your ignorance.
manufacturing essential items and items of national security yes and others. But not everything numb nuts.
Did you ever think that with more competition prices could come down? OR manufacturers will eat some or all of the Tariffs? Might want to go out and buy some stocks as they say better late than never.
Poor old Goose, he’s having a nightmare!Oh so the manufacturer should make less margin? Great idea, what do you suppose happens when companies start making less profits?
which essential items will the US be manufacturing that it doesn’t currently?
US Steel and Aluminum was on life support. Chips and Ships AI, auto manufacturing, Ford is booming and expanding etc:

details are still being revealed but it sounds like tariffs will come off British steel/aluminium into the US. First 100k cars will be 10% tariff - it sounds like we only export about 125k a year anyway.
in the other direction Starmer said they've opened up the UK market to US food & agriculture but without compromise on food standards. there was talk of the digital tax on US companies coming off but i haven't seen that confirmed.
apparently US beef is the best in the world..............up until now US beef imports were limited due to added growth hormones.
Looks like you’ll be able to get a proper steak now. Good eh!
Rolls Royce engine for aircraft will be exempt of all Tariffs. In exchange UK will be buying $10 billion airplanes from Boeing. Airline hasn’t been announced yet. Probably BA.
Give it a minute and you’ll soon learn just how much propaganda bullshit you’ve been getting fed about American food and Autos.
Apparently a big win for tech companies and British Steel.
Trump said the 10% Tariff is the lowest on offer, other countries will be higher.
Sounds like a win- win!

Let’s wait & see. The wording is about a ‘deal’ not an agreement, so will likely be some short term exemptions for cars, steel etc etc.
what it looks like in the other direction nobody has said.

Yet another multi billion Trade deal soon to be agreed with USA off the back of the India Trade deal.
Yet another Brexit success on the horizon we couldn't have managed before leaving the EU.

So it’s not quite the Issue you pretend it to be. As I said Simpleton!
Funny how you regurgitate the liberal medias threat of possible inflation after we just had 4 years of inflation not seen since the Carter administration.
As for I phones, perhaps they will start making them here or perhaps he misspoke, so what, You do it all the time.
There’s nothing transitory about the costs. They’re permanent and will release an inflationary ‘jump’ on anything imported from the majority of trading partners.
Energy costs have already come down as you keep pointing out, and yet the all items CPI index rose by 2.4% in March. So no, energy will not be offsetting this cost.
not to mention there is no energy benefit if you’re importing finished goods.
you keep saying manufacturing jobs are coming back but haven’t managed to name one product or raw material which is actually going to be made in the US instead of China/india/vietnam/taiwan etc etc etc.
as for liberal media, did you mean your own central bank?
“Powell said if Trump's tariff policies remain in place they were likely "to generate a rise in inflation, a slowdown in economic growth, and an increase in unemployment".”

US will make deals with most countries, UK included, that will be fair or end in free trade.
China is the big kahuna and not just for the US. China has mobilized in a big way in recent decades in manufacturing. Every firm here selling a product now almost certainly needs it to be made in China to be competitive and turn a profit. Is it not in any way alarming that we have allowed ourselves to as reliant as we now are on China to make many of the everyday goods we rely on as cheaply as they do?

Trump expected to announce trade agreement with the UK tomorrow.
The first countries gets the best deal. This is one deal that I hope is good for the UK.
We will find out the details tomorrow.

Jan to March the retail price of eggs actually went up, but I’m not going there.
im not sure why you’re talking to me about borders, or government spending when this is about tariffs. Trump said the US would manufacture iPhones, he’s either stupid or lying. Which is it?You’re in no position to call anyone stupid mate. Sorry but it’s obvious all you have is a silly I phone argument.
Ill let you major in minors, You might wanna get together and debate Maverick he’s on your level.I’d call anyone who thinks iPhones can be manufactured in the US stupid. Same way I’d call anyone who thinks tariffs aren’t inflationary stupid.

And let’s not forget the $10 Trillion in new investments that are now coming in to America since he took office.
Oh and let’s not forget the Houthi’s now capitulating and will cease to attack ships in the Red Sea impacting the Suez Canal, just Trump ensuring safe passage for all ships through one of the worlds most critical shipping lanes in the world.
