This place definitely is DEAD these days
On a thread about what has become wrong with this website, literally a couple of back and forths in true traditional WHO style and what it's always been known for, and it gets locked. Like the Jota thread, it's the only thread that's getting any proper traction.
I'm beginning to think Manuel had the right idea. This place is being turned into KUMB.

I've never understood the whole coming back as another user thing, when you're a regular on here.
You can normally spot them early doors. I think Hammered & Pickled lasted about 3 posts under his new username before he was called out.

The sight of "proper" West Ham on here desperately trying to prove that they've not been totally schooled by a site dork was funny back then and it's still funny today.

Even the ghost of Manuel seems to have turned up and is having a dig, spamming incessantly via WHO mail...having lost the broader board as an option via WHOicide, seems that a personal back and forth to me is now the favoured route.

Re: This place definitely is DEAD these days
On the old format, some of the threads were ruined by the decades-long feuding, and the subject itself got buried in scores of off-topic posts. I have just got back into posting on here as I struggled to navigate it,
Re: This place definitely is DEAD these days
Manuel is obviously addicted and wants it dead to break the addiction
Waves at Manuel
Valid points about those moaning to get other posters banned because some are too weak to scroll by and ignore them

"Wrecked it"
Locked two threads, one of which bounced back in this thread (and actually became the discussion about the site the previous had gone off the rails on) and that was wrecking it.
Some funny fuckers and perspectives. Even the ghost of Manuel seems to have turned up and is having a dig, spamming incessantly via WHO mail...having lost the broader board as an option via WHOicide, seems that a personal back and forth to me is now the favoured route.
WHO is a circle that is impossible to square. Half the site want greater, more effective moderation. Half the site seemingly want the option of a hate-infested bickering mess. Pretty much impossible for anyone that tries to keep it operational to succeed (which I guess is why all the mods have jacked it in).
As those far wiser than me have oft repeated...you can't please all of the people all of the time.
In my opinion, what is killing the site is modern society, and WHO's core ageing, along with several years of the site crumbling and being largely non-functional.
The humour and adventures were typically born of the spirit of youth getting up to high jinx and then telling about it. A time when the posters here were more interested in the humours of the day and less caught up in the politics of the world....something which is one of being young's major advantages.
Nights out drinking, clubbing, 'on the pull', and with a life attitude of looking to laugh. Not much of that seeps on here now. Sarcasms about life, and amusing obersavtions, rather than direct attacks. Zoltaneering and one-upmanship. Hammers lass and slurps for the weekend.
Obviously I don't know for sure our demographics, but suspect most are middle aged to late middle aged. More weighed down by the state of the Kingdom than the state of their mates on a Saturday night.
That's my view. Nothing is here to stop people posting those same observations. Recounting the same anecdotes. Adopting the same view on life alongside the more run of the mill commentary on West Ham that is what the community centres around ultimately. But for most life has moved on, what's important has moved on and the 'conversation' has evolved.
What WHO really needs is an influx of younger posters. Those with a less battle weary view on life and it's trials and tribulations. Telling the tales of their times. And ideally a Sullivan-less West Ham revival.
Achieving any of that...answers on a postcard. We made the site operational, which is the easy bit, but can do little for the content, which is largely the responsibility of everyone else.
And until then, I guess we'll limp on with political bickering, feuds, and the joyless wonders playing crab football that Cock Piss Potter and the head Goblin look to serve up over the coming months.
I stepped back in the admin side of things for months...largely a watching brief, and got pelters for doing nothing. "Stubbo you cսnt. The sites gone. Why don't you ban all these vile cunts killing this site".
Two tiny interventions, attempting to push pause on the bickering which is one of two common complaints (the other being straight up racism), and the other half pile in...."Stubbo you cսnt. Killing the site. Power gone to your head. Place is like KUMB now".
And then finally my favourite..the Ghost of Manuel. Gone-but-not-gone. Haunting my inbox, the apparition of a former WHOer who can't quite kick the habit. "Stubbo you cսnt. You shouldn't have saved it. It's all your fault. Should have left it to die".
Will WHO get it's 'come to Jesus' moment? Probably not.

How can I disagree with that?

I mean, fucking hell. You're like Alan Partridge with less self awareness.
OK. So you accept and tolerate that on a message-board people may have differing views to you and are free, as you are, to express those views in a manner of their own (not your) choosing?

No need to resort to language that is clearly below your self-percieved status on here now, is there?
Let's give the site admin a chance, shall we?
What is your end game here? What is it that you're after? Some sort of public humiliation of posters who don't meet your exacting standards?
Something akin to a headmaster giving a naughty boy six-of-the best on stage, in front of the whole school at Monday morning assembly?
Is that analogous to something like your aim here?

WHO has always been the same, yes it can be tiresome if you let it be.. Just scroll past and ignore. Such great work was done saving the site but what was the point if it ends up biege and sanatised like other sites.

Re: This place definitely is DEAD these days
Gank wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025, 10:15 If it is possible to do this at all, the solution might be to lock an individual poster out of an individual thread. Once it starts going down that road we all know it's heading towards, one poster is locked out of the thread and if the other poster keeps going on about it when the first guy loses the right to reply, he gets locked too. He can still read it as it might be about West Ham, but he can't post on it because he started to ruin it earlier.
So all it is really is the removal of the reply button for one person on one thread, but like I said I don't know if that is easy to implement or even possible at all.
Not impossible but not straightforward and still requires mods to be around and available to nip it in the bud early on. Will look at options though.
