May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

I think those of you who have been comparing Sullivan's negotiating techniques to those of a barrow boy (even if only by implication, not using those exact words) have got it wrong.

His technique is more akin to that of a horse trader at a Gypsy Fair.

I don’t want to piss on everyone’s cornflakes but I have a feeling that it will be a while before we see any signings in spite of selling Kudus.

Sullivan is Sullivan and can’t help himself. If the accountants predict a £100m loss in the current year then you can be sure Sullivan will avoid all expenditures. Especially if you consider that Kudus’s book value will be somewhere around £20m. In other words a £54.5m sale makes £34.5m profit off a £100m loss. We don’t know if some of the £54.5m is conditional add-one either in which case it’s less income guaranteed.

Consider a young LB for £20m and negotiations for other players and it’s easy to see why Sullivan doesn’t want to make the Czech teams day when at the moment he’s still sitting on a £70m loss…

Luiz sounds like a player being pushed by Sullivan. Cash flow beimg the priority. He has Premiership experience and Sullivan always has that as a prerequisite, he has played for a historically big “bling” club that Sullivan unzips for.  So the fact this is driven by Sullivan and not Potter and Macaulay and their mad idea of getting younger players for the future
Luiz is not quick so wont solve that issue so we still have the huge need for an athletic, young, and pacy young lad alongside in central midfield.  Luiz does work very hard for the team and was Villa’s best player for several seasons imo so not against this and think it will happen as looks like a Sully special “gift” for his manager

In a better environment and manager who can deal with his petulance he'll regain his old more regular form. I'll never excuse his piss poor attitude and how he did effectively down tools last season because he wasn't getting it all his way, but he's still a quality player when he puts his mind to it. No way should we have agreed to such a lowly deal for him under such a lengthy contract with us still. Zero surprises it happened with our clown management though. 


 

It was clear he wouldn't be here long term but he's worth half again on what we sold him for. I find it hard to get excited about all these 'Marquee Signings' we make. Most are either expensive flops or misfits or have one good season and then get the hump when they realize they have a career of relegation avoidance instead of European Football under Sullivan's West Ham. I'm not saying we are the only club who signs duds or is used as a stepping stone, but we seem to excel at it. I'm surprised Bowen stuck around. I guess he's in and around the England setup and must be happy-ish to be playing in London where he is settled
