Covered songs better than the original.
Subjective, I know but anyway:
Hurt - Johnny Cash - original - Nine Inch Nails
This Flight Tonight - Nazareth - original - Joni Mitchell
In My Life - Johnny Cash - original - The Beatles
The Price of Love - Bryan Ferry - original - The Everly Brothers
You fuckers?

Bowie. Amsterdam.
The original versions all by Belgian singer / songwriter / actor Jacques Brel of course. Amsterdam was what led me to discovering Brel, who sang in French. Luckily I have enough of a smattering of the language to be able to cope with the lyrics of his songs. I now prefer the original Amsterdam, but not the original 'Au suivant' - Next.
So, any more examples like these? Isn't there an Elvis song in Italian (I'm no expert there). Anyone prefer the original forign language version of a song to the English translation version (often butchered to make it rhyme). Any examples where both are great (Amsterdam) or one is awful?

Thanks Billy, I am aware of the German one but will look up the French one. The German one appears in the Film Chsitiane F. I think.

Frank.
There's a version of 'Heroe's sung by Bowie in German. There's also a version of the same song in French knocking about somewhere.

Oh dear Swiss are you ok? 1. I think it was Far Cough that accused you of loving Europop not me and 2. Its you that are deflecting you called me a twat after you mistook a Dave Brubeck video of Take 5 for the original version of Golden Brown, which you have neatly avoided again!

Love the Klaatu original, but the Carpenters version has a much more slick production.
