Patriotism

Post Exiled In Surrey »

A flag should be about pride. About unity. About celebrating who we are. That’s not what’s happening right now. These England flags going up everywhere? That’s not patriotism. That’s marking territory. That’s sending a message. And the message is ugly: “This is ours. You don’t belong here.”That isn’t pride. That’s fear. That’s exclusion. That’s racism dressed up as tradition.Real patriotism doesn’t slam the door in someone’s face. Real patriotism says: we are strong enough, proud enough, confident enough to welcome others in. To share our values — values of fairness, decency, tolerance — the values that have always made Britain worth being proud of.When you turn the flag into a weapon, you betray it. You betray our history. You betray the very idea of Britain.Because the truth is this: our flag should say we belong together. Not you stay out.

Obviously Australia shouldn’t be in a European ‘song’ contest
Hope it doesn’t spoil your Eurovision party

Israel still isn’t in Europe. Their problems with their region is nothing to do with European teams

Just like Welsh teams shouldn’t be in an English league
Or the desperate teams (New Rangers & Paedo Celtic) from Scotland obviously

Last time I looked at a map, neither is Australia.
Doesn't appear to be a barrier to them taking part in the gay-fest that is Eurovision though😉

The Champions League is a European competition

Israel is a member of UEFA because other (Muslim) members of the AFC kicked out founder member Israel, basically for being mostly Jewish.

You seem to be holding Israel and Israelis to different, higher, standards of behaviour than other people. But you couldn't possibly be doing that because it would be, well, anti-Semitic, wouldn't it?

Novel idea...

How about we ban and fuck off Terrorists (40,000+ on a watchlist) instead of Football fans travelling to watch their Team play legally from another Country?

As for the Ajax match (it took 2 to tango), that is used as a convenient excuse to apparently ban Israelis from England when that fixture happened exactly a year ago. But now they ban them under gormless advise now. What a coincidence... Funny that.

Israel isn’t in Europe
The Champions League is a European competition
Perhaps Qatar & Saudi should have teams in it?
I suspect UEFA would be in favour

Yes the Israeli’s may cause trouble as they did at Ajax
I also suspect the fact that Birmingham may have some people (not necessarily Villa fans) who have sympathies with Palestinians and want to take the opportunity to attack Jewish people
I imagine the Safety Advisory body considered both those possibilities
The UK government is obviously keen to keep Israel onside so will provide extra resources to police the game & satisfy the Advisory Body that their concerns are met & they can change their advice

Villa have a Jewish Supporters Club.

None of them have ever been murdered. What a weird thing to dream up.

Christian Villa fans are more likely to be murdered by "locals" (by which we mean Muslims) than Jewish ones.

If any away fans got hurt it killed, it would be as a result of them kicking off (and this lot do, regularly), not because they're Jewish or even Israeli.

Personally all this could be avoided if teams that aren’t European like the Israeli’s weren’t competing in a competition for European clubs

Comes across bit nazi that mate!
On the one hand the loony left don't want the Jews in Palestinian as classed as European invaders and the other souldnt be allowed in Europe football competitions because tthey ain't European

You reckon that there are enough "locals" with tickets who will get into Villa's ground and start topping away fans?

50 football fans are killed due to their religion in the UK, and your main concern is what Villa's legal position would be?

I guess you are from the RFK Jr / Trump school of ignoring experts in favour of VIBES & FEELINGS

Don't have to ignore it, just don't have to always act on it as I see no grounds to ban their fans whilst allowing Villa fans in. That's discrimination.

Villa didn’t ban anyone
It was the Birmingham Safety Advisory service following a West Midlands police assessment

Villa shouldn't be able to pick and choose what away fans they want to attend.

It was wrong of them to ban the Maccabi Tel Aviv fans, and it was also wrong of them to ban the Legia Warsaw fans seeing as that's been brought up.

WHU(Exeter) wrote: 05 Nov 2025, 09:55 CS, I can well imagine that being the case, that there would’ve been pro-Palestine agitators riling them from the off. And also don’t understand the stuff below about ex-IDF or current IDF being with them. Of course there would be, due to the conscription set up in the country - I don’t think that should be a factor at all.

Also think there’ll be news stories from one side or the other that have distorted what actually happened.

From what I’ve seen/read though, there appeared to have been plenty amongst them completely up for stuff (and more), that in years gone past would’ve seen sanctions from UEFA without an eyelid being batted.

We’ve got Starmer and Badenoch right behind draconian laws putting people inside for years, because of something written on social media or a placard, a few months later championing the rights of another lot to swan around singing songs celebrating the death of kids?
Plenty of videos doing the rounds last month with Villa fans having a tear up in Rotterdam, assume they have a ban on away support incoming.

No. That's false. Much as I don't think she is any good, Badenoch does not have a history of supporting this stuff. It's Starmer and Hermer who are the culprits here, not her.
