The Redknapp years
The Redknapp years
I’m sure some are aware of Robert Banks’ West Ham History YouTube channel. He’s got to the the 98/99 season with his 20min videos. That was my favourite time as a West Ham fan. Di Canio had just joined, we still had Berkovic and Moncur. Sinclair and Lampard were in great form, Rio was one of best young players in the league and Joe Cole was just coming on the scene. We had characters like Ruddock and Wright too. Well worth a watch for some lovely memories - great away win at Stamford bridge included- it all seemed a lot simpler then…

The geezer is a complete cսnt.This is correct, 20 years ago on WHO nobody had a good word to say about him, it was all about stabbing his pal Bonds in the back and robbing the club by signing players he could get a backhander out of no matter if we needed them or if they were any good.
The football in his time was loads more entertaining then, but it wasn't down to him, we had always played the West Ham Way up until we appointed managers with no affinity to the club.
So yeah, fuck Redknapp.Spot on Gank. Back in 2001 people were happy he got sacked. I remember how excited we were about moving foward with a new manager . I think MaClaren was bit favourite for many to take over. Then...shit
Happy memories of the old WHO.

Re: The Redknapp years
I remember everyone on here was delighted when Redkapp was sacked. The joy and discussion of being in a good position to get a decent manager was all over the forum. Then we got Roader and we instantly knew we were in another big West Ham fuck up. Once again the owners screwed up big time. Once again all we could do was support and make the best of another mess.

Re: The Redknapp years
If you look at the talented team we had at the time we definitely were not playing as a sum of our parts under Rednapp. And then the Roeder fuck up. Yeah our owners were just as shit then as well.

Re: The Redknapp years
Song was a loan so I guess wasn't an enormous expense. He was skilful, I liked watching him play, clever turns and carrying tbe ball, but he did nothing for us. A bad version of Kudus this season.

Probably a better option than the likes of Dumitrescu in hindsight. I don't think Song was a bad player, just crap for us, and Dailly was a good pro. Tihinen was a strange one. According to Wiki
"West Ham were willing to acquire Tihinen on a permanent contract for around £2 million, but Viking felt he was worth more and tried to raise the transfer fee to the point where the deal collapsed. Tihinen returned to Norway. In 2002 Tihinen joined Belgian club Anderlecht for a €1.3 million transfer fee. He played in Belgium for four years, winning two Belgian championships."
So Viking wouldn't accept £2 million from West Ham but accepted 1.3m Euros from Anderlecht, no idea what that was in £.
Agree about Song, I do remember him being superb in the air. Tihinen was immense in the FA Cup win at Old Trafford.
Re: The Redknapp years
February 1993. Dicks didn't exactly miss against Peterborough, the keeper saved it. The ball flew about 20 yards straight up in the air. Somebody following up headed it goalwards but the keeper saved that as well. West Ham won it 2-1 here's the highlights.

He only had 2 goals for us in 32 appearances, then he got homesick for Scouseland so he signed for Birmingham until he got fucking homesick again.
Dicks had 29 goals in 159 apps (first time) and 21 goals in 103 apps (second time around)
