Cresswell is better than Luke Shaw...and not just because he scored...

Plaistow station had been shut when we rolled though at around 2:15 with riot police lining the whole platform. Was murder trying to get out of the station at Upton Park as they only had one entrance open.

I spoke to one OB on why the heavy police presence, he said because of that trouble in pre season, I said, but they're a bunch of pussies by and large, he said, I've seen the pictures, I walked off chuckling

Was waiting for my brother at 2.45pm, standing next to Gary Firmanger, and there were so many old bill in their riot gear hanging around. Very old school.

Geordies will tell you they've looked poor through their good run as well, Sprouts son. They've squeaked out a few wins, and on the evidence of the weekend, can sort of undersdtand why.

Sort of game it only took one moment of magic or good fortune to decide, and luckily we got it this time, and were good enough to keep a clean sheet.

I thought they were, even before the sending off very ordinary.

Perhaps it was just a poor game for them at the end of a good run, or perhaps we made them look poor. I suspect the former.

Good to get back to winning ways, particularly coming into this packed Christmas period.

"But, in the past, these are the games we lost"

Defo the BUZZ SENTENCE of the season that.

Re: West Ham v Newcastle - Official Match Thread 1-0 FT
It certainly was no classic but through the course of a season you will get two in-form teams that don't deliver what the fans expect.

Pardew obviously set up not to lose as he wanted to keep his run of no defeats in so many going. So it was alwasy going to be difficult. On the flip side I think West Ham played a little negative as Newcastle have been playing so well lately and we didn't want to give anything away.

We still had Song, Valencia and Sakho out which obviously makes us look a little ordinary going forward. With those two up front we attack with such versatility and pace that when they aren't playing we look ordinary.

But, in the past, these are the games we lost. When it came to the crunch and we just needed to be solid and not make mistakes we couldn't do it.

The goal was a great finish but came about through luck which sometimes goes youway and sometimes doesn't.

I will take a few of these ordinary games if they are mixed in with much of what he have already seen this year. You have to go through a season with some matches that you grind out and just do the right things.

I thought the defence look very solid and doubt if Newcastle would've scored if they were still playing now.

Lily. The game is all about opinions. I thought that is was pretty dire and you didn't. So instead of 2 things happening in 90 minutes you make it 5 things that happened, that's not exactly enthralling entertainment now is it.

But we won so it was a good day, however, I hate it when we only play one up front when we are at home and the lack of action kind of proves the point. But as I say its all about opinions.

Harsh on the match that. You forgot to add a couple of bits, which was Zarate's shot that forced a very good save from their keeper, and the header from Carrol or Tomkins I think, that looked to be going in, but it hit Nolan(?) in the gut, and of course Downing's shot that should have been a goal. All these factors are why we edged it and just about deserved the win.

Not many goal opportunities, but I see that as down to both sets of defenders doing a great job. It just seems great defending doesn't get the praise and appreciation as great attacking. The game was end to end, both teams going for a win from start to finish, so I can't agree that it was a bad game.

It was a very good battle of wills, the sort of game the likes of Bonzo and Dicks thrived in.

Cresswell produced a Mooro-esque tackle in the first half on Saturday. Pity they elected not to show it on MOTD when they were praising us for our defence.

Best bit of the entire match for me was singing Feed the Geordies to 'Do they know it's Christmas'
The match was fucking shit, we had a shot and scored they had a shot and missed. That was it for 90 minutes.
All together now. Feed the geordies, do they know its christmas time, feed the geordies.......
