Or we could have just fucking played like we wanted to win the cunting game. Why are we not having a swing at this? When are we ever going to be in this position again? Fucking wanker Moyes.

I had a few mates who when they saw Noble starting wouldn’t watch it. And they wasn’t wrong. You could start with lanzini and benrahma but still sit deep and defend but it just means when you get the ball you can break. When we got the ball they were looking at each other not knowing wether to try and get forward. Fairly obvious what the plan was.

Bowen: “I’ve been disappointed in myself the few games before and I’ve been out the starting eleven, which I probably deserved for my performances. It was about getting back in the team, playing my game and getting that confidence back. Now, we’ll see what happens next weekend.”

Did you see their bench we had more senior pros on the bench than they did.

What worried me the most was the bench . Is that the best we could do?

I don’t even care that he played noble and that’s not my problem....the fact all 11 players sat 5 yards outside our box from the 10th min till they scored is not because he played Noble it’s because they were instructed to play deep. Otherwise you’d of seen him going ballistic on the sideline to get them up the pitch. In fact soucek was far worse than noble last night his passing was terrible.
When they scored even Neville commented how ridiculous it was that we’d gone from defending the edge our box to a mental high press in the space of two mins
Amazing how a bunch of know nothing fans can see exactly how a game will pan out before a ball is kicked and a bloke who’s paid millions can’t.

It showed that whilst Arsenal are a good team, when those other north London shits actually attacked them (with 10 men) then Arsenal were all over the place. They could have easily lost that game. We need to really go for them.

be interesting how moyes approaches the arsenal game.
be very poor if we go defensive against a "big" team 5 places below us in the league

Yeah he said we were set up wrong.. Maybe he was being sarcastic as it was a stupid question

What's worrying, in the post match interview when asked "would you do anything differently", Moyes just replied with a flat out "no".

Even though just before hand he mentioned there were mistakes.

Odd.

I knew he went with what he thought was the lower risk tactic of keeping it tight ( via attrition ) for 60 - 70 mins and looking to see if we could keep the deficit to below 2*

_______

*corrected for you

As for defending him despite the fact he wanted a carbon copy of the shit he served up for the cup game. Laughable

"He did nothing wrong when on the ball..."

I wasn't exactly logging STATS, Sir Alf, but quite a few times Noble just passed backwards. Even when he had a prospect of launching an attack from centre circle / their half, he initiated the ball going back, back and sometimes to Fabianski... (who inevitably launched long, and we lost possession anyway)

That's no good, when possession is at such a premium.

I've every respect for the fella but he seems now capable of little but "holding on" to team possession. That's insufficient when we're aiming for 4th: worse than useless when we're losing the game.

I was defending Moyes a bit after the game because I knew he went with what he thought was the lower risk tactic of keeping it tight ( via attrition ) for 60 - 70 mins and looking to see if we could nick one later on. It did not work because you cannot always legislate for a deflection via a set piece.

Others see it differently and I respect that. They think we should have set out to play with Benrahma and Lanzini or just one of them in a 4 at the back set up in the proverbial "attack is the best way to defend" mode. It may have worked but I reckon the odds were on us being 2 down by half time. But its academic as we will never know.

The balance of the two and where ( again hindsight ) Moyes messed up was the selection of Noble. I have the utmost respect for the bloke who is the end of an era . one club man that gave 100% in every game and was a player we once relied on. His lack of pace and size was always a limitation but at 34 he really is struggling with Premiership football now. He did nothing wrong when on the ball but was a peripheral figure and chase shadows for most of his 60 mins.

Possibly Moyes should have started with Benrahma instead of Noble but still keeping the 5 at the back? Maybe Benrahma would have given them something to defend and he would have provided some support for Antonio when we did on the odd occasion get the ball? Who knows? Maybe Benrahma would have wasted it and got caught in possession?

In the end, we are so limited as a squad and that is the root cause. Moyes was not faultless but is always at a disadvantage with a squad that really only has 13 or 14 players that are of the good Premiership quality. Of course this is all my opinion :-)

Lets pray that Moyes and scouting team ( one bloke ) can continue the savvy recruitment of the last 18 months which will continue to be on a very modest budget. That will define if we are a one season wonder or truly destined to regularly finish in the top 6 - 10 ear season from now on.

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
I'll start with the fact that I was disappointed with yesterday's line-up and the way Moyes went about the game. It looked as if he had no confidence in the team being able to score more than the odd goal on the break. Which as it turned out was right. Although it very much became a self-fulfilling prophecy.

When we brought on Lanzini and Benrahma and the came opened up ManUtd looked much more dangerous ( but so did we!) Moyes obviously thought we couldn't have matched them like that for over 90mins. Whether we could have we will never know now.

The only thing in Moyes's defence is that had he started more positive and it had gone wrong with the players available on the bench he would have had nowhere to go.

Despite that, and given where we are in the league he should have gambled from the start.

Someone on here said that Rice had a stinker last night. I though he was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch.

I wonder how we would have performed against ManU had Lingard been available to us.

As it is last night’s looked like a keep the goals against down exercise.

Rossal he has but that's the result of a great teamplay imo rather then his individual brilliance

Have you seen Antonio's goal scoring record in the last year?

Why would we shift him from playing up top when he is banging them in

GreenStreetPlayer 12:50 Mon Mar 15
Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
Sajmo1, if you remember he played right mid when he joined and for me that was and still probably his best position. He was scoring loads of goals from there.
Then Bilic tried to turn him into a right wing back and nearly ruined him.
He is a handful and has done a great job up front, but still feel he is up there because we never really have had anyone good enough recently.
