I know we have been a bit flaky at the back recently but....to shoot ourselves in the foot 3 times against Newcastle off all clubs was ridiculous!

I’ll stand corrected.

Have you not watched Brighton and particularly Southampton who dominate possession?

Well our games against Burnley, Brighton, WBA and Southampton we will probably have a lot of the ball...

So we need plan B

Darby - That's exactly how we should have approached it.

You can't have 60% possession and use the same tools as you do for 35% counter attacking

Re: ⚽ Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 3-2
Yes, we do need another string to our bow. Moyes should definitely have changed tactics against Newcastle, who have the lowest possession % stats in the league.

If next season we're back to having crowds in stadiums then there might be an issue with the counter-attacking football. Personally I've always liked that style of play, but often crowds get irked by the lack of possession and can get on the players backs about it. That's one of the ways the lockdown's been useful to us.

For reference our possession stats are at 16th in the table, just ahead of the likes of Newcastle, WBA, Burnley and Palace.

I was going to write this before the game, but I thought it was a bit wanky-sounding. But I think, now that the game's over, it's worth pondering. You be the judge if it's wanky or interesting.

Before the game, I thought this game might be a test case for how we go next season. Teams that overachieve one season often struggle in the season after it. Think Leicester after they won the Prem, or Everton in Moyes' second season.

Part of it might be complacency among the players, but I also think that other teams start taking you more seriously in the second season. One risk of that is that mid-table sides will start sitting back against us, then try to hit us on the break like Newcastle did. That might be a problem because OUR best attacks come from hitting the opposition with a rapid counter-attack while they're camped around our box.

I love our rapid counter-attacking football, so I don't want to see that change, but we need a second string to our bow. That's why I wanted 4-2-3-1, with Benrahma and Lingard providing the guile to open up a set defense.

Might be an idea to get back to basics and practice some defending in training this week.
Leaking a fuck of a lot of goals, can't keep scoring three week in week out to salvage results

the only good thing to come out of west ham losing to newcastle is that the tevez "compensation claim" shitcunt fraudsters , otherwise known as sheffield bastarding united are now relegated. Im only sorry that the bent nosed, putty face fat cunt Bruce isn't getting relegated along with that shower of cheating shit as well.

But nobody was talking about Masuako, they were talking about Johnson that was my point.

Not every comment about every player on here requires you to compare it to Masuako, its fucking weird.

He wasn't playing in this game and you're talking about him in a discussion about their goal.. It's odd.

Of course I'm comparing Masuaku to Ritchie you retard.
Just because he didn't play doesn't mean I can't compare him, even more so.
Please give me the stats with Masuaku's goals and assists.
Then remember his mistakes, countless.

Scrolling through a few pages here to read others’ comments and it is clear we are in agreement generally where things went wrong yesterday. However, there are many posts who have decided to focus on the positives about our season and that, despite the knock back from Newcastle, there are reasons to be cheerful and still hopes of a successful end to this year’s campaign. For all those positive posters, you’ve lifted my gloom a bit and thank you. Now let’s all focus on stuffing Chelsea. Perhaps dropping points yesterday may well convince Moyes that playing out for a draw is now not acceptable.

First goal was the result of many fuck ups.
Aimless passes across the back.

Stupid foul
Not blocking the shot
Not saving the piss poor shot
Not sorting your feet out

It was a brilliant cross, something Masuaku can only dream off. Ogbonna and Johnson should of done better, maybe even Fabianksi on a better day.

Re: ⚽ Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 3-2
If Cresswell and Masakau are fit I’d play wing backs still. But I’d drop Noble for Benramha and play Fornals with Soucek. I’d also consider playing Coufal at RCB and Fred at RWB. They are rapid going forward no matter who they play Chelsea in the wide positions.

Pedro - not so sure against Chelsea.

But got it wrong yesterday for sure.

We were set up to worry about their strengths rather than impose ours on them.

Not really the attitude when you're fourth and away to a relegation threatened team..

Re: ⚽ Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 3-2
Newcastle played our tactics of setting back and hitting on break.

Need pace going forward versus Chelsea next week. Benrahma should come in and play 4 at the back.
