When's he due to finishing his coaching badges?

I don't think I'm too far away from suggesting I'd prefer someone with no experience over Moyes.

Can't be arsed to start a new thread on it, but we'll worth watching the Joe Cole cast on btsport/YouTube with Mark NOBLE

Have no idea whether there are problems behind the scenes but there's pretty much no way we don't miss him badly around the club

"Moyes had all summer to turn it around"

Yet he admits we were underprepared.

Considering he sacked off last season's progress in January to focus on this summer to strengthen he's failed miserably.

My biggest worry was the way the players were not running or tackling in the last few league games

Either they're knackered (which they shouldn't be at this early stage of the season) or they're disheartened with the current situation under Moyes and can't be bothered to put in the effort any more

In a way, Moyes has a point blaming the players for our poor performance against Everton, but I suspect a deeper underlying cause. Perhaps I'm wrong?

Moyes certainly got the tactics all wrong for this match on several levels and other than just blaming the players he should admit it

It was always going to the case that Everton would put in a powerful midfield performance and leaving Rice pretty much isolated to deal with it was just crazy

Fornals and Soucek were awful and should have been hooked within the first 10 minutes for constantly losing possession

When it was clear from the ECL game that Downes and Rice dovetailed brilliantly to form a midfield partnership it was obvious that they should have continued to be paired together for a few games

Because Rice was so isolated, Paqueta, who is still struggling with the pace of the premiership, was having to constantly drop back in an attempt to help out, which then prevented any attacking ambitions we might have had

For now, Moyes is probably as good as any to fight the upcoming relegation scrap we'll be facing for the rest of the season

I can't think of any currently available managers better equipped to get us out of the current mess we're in

'How many games have we dominated in the last 9 months ?'

This one, at least.

Moyes had all summer to turn it around

Pre season we were dog shit

This season we're dog shit

2 weeks where alot of the squad are away on int duty won't change much

The next 4 out of 5 are winnable. I suppose there is two ways of looking at that, one it gives the under pressure manager a chance to turn it around, or it gives the new bloke a chance to get of to a great start. Of course, it will be the former.

You have to draw some sort of line in the sand. A lot of the players will be on international duty anyway over the next 2 weeks, so a new bloke will hardly have time to work on what he needs to properly.

The reason for this 2 games is a bit of loyalty, give him 2 games where there can be absolutely no excuses for failure apart from not being very good. How long do you go from there? We could be on 4 points from 9 games, you can't keep your job in that situation given the warchest he's had.

"It's something of a myth that we tailed off badly last year."

I've argued with people about this before. Some say it started in Feb (the month we were unbeaten and got 8 points from 4 games). Some talk about the last 7 games where we managed only 5 points, but we had the same run of 5 from 7 in November/December. In terms of results there wasn't much difference between the 1st half and 2nd half of the season. The main difference was that early on we won at home to Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea and then lost away against them later in the season. If those fixtures had been reversed then we'd likely have got more points in the 2nd half of the season.

I think that those people who thought we had a chance of a top 4 finish if we'd bought a striker in January are deluding themselves, although we would probably have finished 6th.

Can all the armchair managers please stop having an opinion that differs from VirginiaHam's.

He's played a couple of decent level Cricket matches, so he knows professional sport inside out.

Meerkat,

You're trying to flog a dead horse. Moyes has to make changes as of the Wolves game.

The part that bothers me is the stuff Martin Tyler talked about yesterday (didn't hear it, I don't get that broadcast feed) plus the questions about whether Moyes has lost the dressing room. Those are both huge problems.

The Brighton game was a major cause for concern because we were so passive, but then it got turned on it's head with the games against NF, Spurs and Chelsea.

So, to what I said earlier; Moyes has a huge 4 weeks ahead. I've changed my view since yesterday.

Virginia,
Won’t try and argue with your stats , however you can’t deny the performances are shite , even when we were getting points .
How many games have we dominated in the last 9 months ?
Home or away it’s the same set up , sit back , concede territory , hope to counter .
It’s been sussed and it’s not now working and now we don’t have the points .
He is lashing out at the players , schedules etc .
He talks of ambition, yet allows for none on the pitch . He is literally at this stage all talk .
I think he has lost the players or flogged them to death .
They won’t or can’t put in the same effort as before . Those stats are the here and now and even called out by Sky commentary .
His slagging off the “ regulars “ yesterday has made a rod for his own back .
I can’t see how he can’t drop most of them .
Ideally I want him gone , but it looks like he will be in charge for Wolves .

Irons.

Don't disagree with what you've said. That's why I think this international break is huge.........changes need to be made, and not one or two.

There's a few stats flying around that have us at the bottom in sprints and a couple of other effort related categories, so either a few are knackered or they aren't putting the effort in.

I don't like putting timelines on manager longevity, largely because it breeds contempt among supporters, and on top of that it's pointless because we don't make the decisions.

However, just as I thought yesterday's was an important game, we have to show progress in the next couple otherwise the doubters will be screaming.

For me it's a case of act now or put it away for a while. You have a two week window and two winnable games. It's either perfect time for a change or perfect time for a reset.

The thought of seeing how we go in the next two games is bonkers, for me.

I am overly loyal and would hate for us to become a sack-a-manager-season club. I appreciate what he has done and loved the European adventure we had because of him.

But I am on the fence because this season has it as felt like no progress has been made. We are doing the same things and playing the same players (some of whom I love) when something drastic has to happen.

Something drastic happened in the transfer market but we are only getting slight whiffs of it on the field.

Winning games changes much more than the table and if he can get the players to deliver performances and results in the next couple of league games, he deserves more time.

If he can't, another drastic change needs to be made.

I think most of us understand the professional game. Its a sport where results are everything, As they say you're only as good as your last result.

Well the last result along with the vast majority of results this season have been poor and thats what the manager should be judged on not a European campaign the ultimately ended in failure last season anyway,

Re: ⚽ Everton v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
Meerkat,

Stewie is correct. 31 points from the first 19 games, 25 from the next 19 games, plus a major european offensive that resulted in us playing twice a week for 2 months with a small squad.

Here is the page that supports that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021%E2%80%9322_West_Ham_United_F.C._season

That post is not condescending, just the facts. You lot need to calm down, look at a few facts and then try and understand the professional game.

Re: ⚽ Everton v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
No patience Virginia !
A very condescending post .
We have been more than patient - this is going on for well over 25 league games .
He would already be gone at 90% of clubs .
As others have said he is not learning from his mistakes .
I think those giving him the next 2 games are being very generous.
