Watford reach ‘full agreement’ for sale – Player rejected West Ham and picked another club

By Lucas Sposito

Ismaël Koné is on his way out of Watford, but not to West Ham, the French media says.

Foot Mercato reports the Hornets and Marseille have reached a ‘full agreement’ for the player.

It’s said that Koné himself has also agreed to personal terms with the French side, so it seems it’s a matter of time until Watford make it official.

The outlet calls the signing a ‘masterstroke’ from Marseille, as they managed to beat a heavy competition for the 22-year-old, with him turning down offers from AS Roma and West Ham United.

It’s made very clear that the project presented by the French side was crucial for the midfielder to reject the Hammers and Giallorossi. Marseille are not done this summer, and following the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi, there are other reinforcements to come.

Watford paid €8m to sign Koné from CF Montréal in January 2023, and he’s leaving the Hornets after just 63 appearances for the club.

The Canadian is valued by Transfermarkt at €11m, and Foot Mercato don’t seem to know how much Marseille will be paying for his signing.

West Ham Still in The Chase for City Outcast

Manchester City are willing to entertain offers for young defender Sergio Gomez, according to Caught Offside. This news has alerted several clubs, including West Ham United, who are reportedly keen on acquiring the Spaniard.

A price tag exceeding £12 million, potentially reaching £16.9 million, has been set by Manchester City for Gomez.

Limited playing time under Pep Guardiola is said to be the driving force behind Gomez’s desire to leave the Etihad Stadium.

The Hammers view Gomez as a valuable addition. His young age, talent, and experience at Manchester City and Anderlecht make him an attractive prospect.

He possesses the ability to play left-back, left wing, or even as a number 10, offering West Ham tactical flexibility.

West Ham’s manager, Julen Lopetegui, is seen as a good fit for Gomez’s development. His pace, skill, and creativity are seen as assets that could translate well to the Premier League, potentially earning him a starting role.

Gomez’s age suggests he has significant room for improvement, particularly within Lopetegui’s attacking system. He has the potential to become a crucial part of West Ham’s defense for years to come.

While West Ham is interested, they face competition from other clubs, including Roma, Real Sociedad, Real Betis, and Sevilla.

He looks much in demand and as yet we have not tabled a bid for him, so I would suggest that he is not particularly high on our transfer list.
