I was wondering why Watford had been managed so badly then i saw this .

In a joint statement, owner Gino Pozzo and chief executive Scott Duxbury expressed "great disappointment".

Scott Duxbury - now I get it.

"10 years of GSB"

Are they holding an official celebration? Or do they not have the front?

Don’t think anyone would disagree that it was another dismal season
Lost half our league games and did nothing in the cups.
10 years of GSB and this is where we are.

As I said, VIlla couldn't have wished for an easier team to play against in order to stay up.
I was hoping we'd go out with a bang and send them down. In the end we went out with a whimper, a fitting end to yet another shitty season. And I don't give a cunt if that offends the happy clapping mongs on here.

I think Antonio's unjust booking was a big turning point in the game.

It seemed to rile him, and he actually later committed a foul which was more worthy of a yellow than the one he was booked for.

He was rightly subbed at halftime (to save him from an eventual red), but that meant our overall "upforitness" fell below what was required to beat Villa.

All players wear those GPS monitoring devices under their shirts.
How do you think they put up those stats saying so and so has run 12km?

I heard they sent Anderson’s one back three times this season as they thought it was broken.

Johnson was the only thoroughly pleasing thing in this match.

No point thinking too hard about our flatness. Mentally, Villa were always going to have more fire in their bellies. Our second gear was still more than enough to match them, as they ended their season on form with real fight. They earned their survival that way.

More generally, we’ve looked good getting over the line. It’s not just since lockdown ended, we were looking good before. I only went to Anfield for the demo, willing to support the team, demanding only effort, but expecting to be beaten and spending the whole game defending. We were excellent defensively, but attacked like fuck every opportunity, and only two massive cock ups from the normally reliable Fabianski denied us what could have been a famous and thoroughly deserved victory.

Lockdown came at a bad time for us, but I’m glad we more or less picked up where we left off and even improved more.

One of their substitute who was changing his shirt before coming on was wearing a black brasiere. WTF?

Watched full re run this evening and it wasn't great. Showed absolutely that we have far too many players like yarmolenko, lanzini, Anderson and haller who would only be half decent if we were the sort of side always on the attack camped in the opponents half. Need players that can do it going forward and back rather than the "luxury" mob. Really feel for lanzini though as he was a terrific little player before his injury.

That makes no sense, why would Green be ridiculed for extra training even if the culture was lax.

As to Pellers, he lost the dressing room in December. Not sure he could have recovered.

We controlled the game today despite their goal. It was nothing fantastic but given how little we had to play for and how much Villa had on the line, it wasn't a bad showing.

I assume the transfer window is open more so let's get that thread open

I do chuckle when I hear the media and fans talk about the big spend the owners have made. Look at the net spend and who went out the door last summer and we spent 20 odd million and slashed the wage bill. We spent on Soucek and Bowen, will ship a fair few out again and end up with our average net spend under these owners of about 25 - 35 million over the 10 years. We are mid table in spending but bottom in how well we spend it.

When they sell the club they will recoup all their loans at an interest rate that is 4-7% above base and they will recoup the original 50 million investment they made to get the club and a massive profit.

You and I , all fans will have put more of their own money into the club because they will not have parted with one penny of their wealth.
They do not care if we are successful on the pitch. They would like it but it’s not essential to them achieving the primary objective which is to make as much money as possible for them. Businessmen who love money and power they feel it gives them. That s the same in all walks of life but it’s the propaganda that cannot be forgiven. Lying to fans from day one and giving them hope and expectations in order to sell the ground and get a rented one. Through a number of transactions and companies they made more money on than we can see I reckon. Thankfully they will both be brown bread within 15 years at the most and Gold within 5 years.

Rob Green was on Radio 5 last week and was saying when he joined us he was ridiculed for doing extra training to improve his technique and fitness, I think Paolo said something similar, there seems to be something in the clubs dna that allows a players to behave unprofessionally and take the piss. Moyes may not have a better win ratio that MP but like a supertanker it takes a while to turn things around, under Pellegrini the players looked so slow, unfit and unmotivated it was embarrassing. it took a couple of games but since the break we've looked a different team, hope Moyes can sell the deadwood but it will be hard in these weird times, can't see anyone wanting to pay the kind of money we shelled out for Haller and Anderson but it's probably worth selling at a loss to get them off the wage bill and bring in hungry young players.
Enjoy what's left of the summer everyone
Cheers
Rat

Have to say Noble's been excellent since moving to the no.10 role. Probably our best player today.

I dimly recall reading that in the early 50s there was a scandal about a West Ham director who said it was better for gates to stay in the Second Division with a reasonable win %, than to go up and have a lower one.

Obviously not the case now* (and probably not even then), but maybe there's some kind of folk memory

*because the % of club income made up by attendances is lower

You have to laugh at some of the comments on here, Pellegrini had us in free fall. Tactically he was shocking, defensively we were all over the shop and wide open. He had spent heavily and bought a striker he had no clue how to get the best out of, the likes of Anderson, Haller and Lanzini were not up for a relegation battle but they would have played under him whatever our situation. Any new manager takes time to understand his squad, our performances before the lockdown were promising if not all the results but that changed after the restart. His signings in January have proved to be exactly what the squad needed and he weeded out the mercenaries here for an easy pay cheque. Judge the bloke when he has had a proper pre season and at least 3 transfer windows and let’s see where we are.

You're a bit pathetic, son. You set your stall out when we signed him, saying he was useless, and he went on to have an absolutely outstanding season. He had an injury, had a shocker against Liverpool, and the only other mistake aside from that match was today in a meaningless game.

You can't name another mistake he has made for us. That' because he's top quality.

Swindon

Good post.

I believe any of our ex managers have been called out before, even Lyall.

Ron Greenwood and the board at the time we’re hated by many.
